Global Screen presents the definitive documentary on the 50th anniversary of the building of the Berlin Wall.
2011. Exactly 50 years after the building of the Berlin Wall, 30 documentary shorts (available as one- or two part compilations) recount the fascinating tale of 30 years in the divided city between 1961 and 1990. Archive material and contemporary witnesses recapture the events of each year, as well as what it was like to live in the shadow of the Wall during those years.
the symbol and embodiment of the Cold War: The Wall dividing the German capital
in half violently tore apart families and friends, and brutally robbed innocent
people of their lives, merely for the crime of wanting to be free. “The Berlin
Wall” looks back to the year 1961, when John F. Kennedy made his famous “Ich
bin ein Berliner” speech, all the way forward to Ronald Reagan’s “Mr.
Gorbachev, tear down this Wall” challenge 1987, by way of the peace movement
and student demonstrations against the Vietnam War, to the Velvet Revolution of
1989 that miraculously brought the Cold War from the brink of destruction to a
peaceful resolution. An important and impassioned inside portrait of the most
moving occurrences of the late 20th Century.
