Global Screen picks up stunning drama THE MEMORY OF WATER, starring Elena Anaya
Munich, July 24, 2015 | Global Screen has picked up
world-wide distribution rights to Spanish-speaking drama THE MEMORY OF WATER
("La Memoria del Agua") starring Elena Anaya and Benjamín Vicuña.
THE MEMORY OF WATER tells the moving story of the young couple Javier and Amanda, who question their lives and their relationship after a tragic accident. A moment of inattention, and now their lives are divided into "before" and "after." When a second chance for both of them arises, they realize that the past they share should not be forgotten. Winding its way through the most intimate regions of the heart, THE MEMORY OF WATER takes an unflinching look at the gradual disintegration of a family – and ventures into a no-man’s land of emotional turbulence.
Leading the exceptional cast is Elena Anaya ("The Skin I Live In", "Lucia and the Sex", "Hierro", "Van Helsing") as Amanda. It is directed by one of Latin America's most promising young filmmakers, Matías Bize, whose award-winning films include "Sábado", "En la Cama", "About Crying" and "The Life of Fish", winner of the Goya for “Best Spanish Language Foreign Film“ in 2011.
THE MEMORY OF WATER is produced by Ceneca Producciones in co-production with Potenza Producciones, Sudestada Cine and NiKo Film with the support of CAIA (Chile), INCAA (Argentina), ICAA (Spain) and Ibermedia.
"I was very happy to come across this beautiful and emotionally gripping project. THE MEMORY OF WATER is a masterpiece in itself reflecting the tragedy of loss and the inevitable destruction that follows after that", states Alice Buquoy, Senior Sales and Acquisitions Manager at Global Screen. "With sensational Elena Anaya – from Pedro Almodovar’s "The Skin I Live In" – in the lead role, THE MEMORY OF WATER will also have true potential to cross over to broader audiences."
