May 17th, 2019

Munich-based world sales company Global Screen can add USA/Canada and China to the list of sold territories for its high-end animation movie TABALUGA: the L.A. based Family-Entertainment powerhouse Viva Pictures Distribution picked up all rights for North America and Yellow Mountain Studios secured all rights for China. The releases are planned simultaneously for the end of the year. Global Screen had already announced deals with distributors in more than 50 territories previously, including Signature Entertainment for UK and Ireland, Flins & Piniculas for Spain, Voxell Baltic for Russia, Phars Filmco Motion Pictures for Middle East and Yejilim Entertainment for South Korea.

Julia Weber, Head of Theatrical Sales and Acquisitions at Global Screen, states, “We are proud to see TABALUGA travelling around the globe and we are more than happy to now continue our collaboration with Viva Pictures Distribution after LUIS AND THE ALIENS. TABALUGA is a daring adventure and a highly emotional and fun animation movie and we can’t wait to see our partners release it to the North American and Chinese audiences.”

TABALUGA tells the story of a brave little dragon, who, with the help of beautiful ice princess Lilli, not only finds his fire and the power of love, but also succeeds in saving the world from a tyrannical snowman. TABALUGA is based on the 78x24min. series of the same name, which aired in more than 100 territories around the world, including France (TF1), UK (Nickelodeon Europe), USA (Fox Family) and Australia (Fox Kids). In Germany, Tabaluga is one of the most valuable family brands, comprising hundreds of licensed articles. Originally created by Peter Maffay, one of Germany’s most famous singers, Tabaluga is also the main character of a highly popular musical show and of five concept music albums, with more than six million copies sold.

TABALUGA is produced by Tempest Film Produktion und Verleih GmbH in co-production with Deutsche Columbia Pictures Filmproduktion and, for China, with Yellow Mountain Studios. It is directed by Sven Unterwaldt (“The 7th Dwarf”) and animated by Studio Rakete, Sophie Animation, Trixter and Awesometown. In Germany, Sony Pictures released TABALUGA last December and sold more than 500.000 tickets. Global Screen will continue selling TABALUGA as well as their other animation highlights BAYALA – A MAGICAL ADVENTURE, FRITZI – A REVOLUTIONARY TALE, MARNIE’S WORLD, OOOPS! THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES… and MY FAIRY TROUBLEMAKER at Cannes (Riviera L7).
