Famed mountaineer Reinhold Messner leads us on an expedition clear across the Alps, through spectacular landscapes, with fascinating encounters with Alpine dwellers, likable oddballs and visionaries on a quest.

The first instalment leads us from glitzy Monaco into the rugged, deserted Western Alps to the peak of Mont Blanc. In the amazing Stura Valley, Messner visits the last farmers and shepherds to hear stories of their battles against wild boar and wolves. The second instalment leads us from Vienna to Messner's home of South Tyrol. In the chilly Eastern Alps, "farming rebel" Sepp Holzer demonstrates how he accomplishes true miracles with his salt-of-the-earth common sense, even harvesting lemons at an elevation of 3600 feet. The third episode takes us through the Central Alps of Switzerland, picture-book vistas of Heidi country.  Messner rappels the infamous north face of the Eiger mountain with permafrost researcher Stephan Gruber, studying the stability of the cliff in the face of climate change.

Die erste Folge führt von Monaco in die wilden, menschenleeren Westalpen bis auf den Gipfel des Mont Blanc. Messner besucht im großartigen Sturatal die letzten Bauern und Schafzüchter und hört von ihrem Kampf gegen Wildschweine und Wölfe. Die zweite Folge führt von Wien bis in Messners Südtiroler Heimat. In den kalten Ostalpen demonstriert der "Agrar-Rebell" Sepp Holzer, wie er mit gesundem Bauernverstand wahre Wunder vollbringt: bis hin zur Zitronenernte in 1.100 Metern Höhe. Die dritte Folge führt durch die Schweizer Hochalpen, Alpen wie aus dem Bilderbuch. An der Eigernordwand seilt Reinhold Messner sich mit dem Permafrostforscher Stephan Gruber ab - es geht um die Stabilität der Felswände in Zeiten des Klimawandels.
