The Goose Princess

The bright and happy Princess Polly is having a tough time. Her parents' kingdom has been in mourning since the disappearance years ago of Polly's brother. The king will tolerate no laughter, the queen makes an effort but is increasingly preoccupied by the situation at court. And this is particularly difficult for Princess Polly as she loves nothing more than to make jokes and cheer people up. At court, therefore, it is not at all easy for people to keep their composure!

When Polly makes both her lady’s maids laugh at the memorial service for the prince, the laughter spreads like wildfire amongst the bystanders. The king is incensed – there is a huge argument and Polly leaves.

Around about this time, the adventurer Leif is crossing the border into the kingdom. His plan is to ride through the sad country as quickly as possible but then he witnesses the kidnapping of the resistance fighter Hagen and so he goes to his aid and frees him.

The pair only manage to escape the king's guards with the help of a magical old woman: "Everyone must shoulder their own burden!" is her motto and even Leif must start to accept responsibility – first by lending a hand. He must carry a bundle of firewood to the old lady's house. As payment, she protects the two fugitives from the king's guards with her magic.

Leif, Hagen and the magical old lady arrive at an enchanted clearing in the forest – here she lives together with many geese and her "daughter". It is Polly, who has also found refuge here. The old lady with the snow-white hair challenges the young people and opens up new horizons to them.

Will they be able to work together to reshape the future of the land and free it from its burden of sadness?
