Zagreb has only been recognized as a capital city since 1991. In this year the former "semi-autonomous republic" managed to separate itself from Yugoslavia, the multi-racial state created by Tito, and attained its independence as an internationally recognized republic. The history of the city is, however, much older and goes back almost 1,000 years. As a result of the brutal war, which devastated Tito's Yugoslavia in the early 90s, Zagreb ceased to become an attractive destination for travellers. The film-makers took this opportunity of taking a fresh look at all that this wonderful central European city and its enchanting surroundings have to offer in the way of beauty, cultural riches and interesting, warm-hearted people - quite in the style of a small but splendid metropolis.
